HC-5D a€ A BEEFIER BUFFALO - The de Havilland Canada Buffalo is back in production to meet, initially, orders from three new military customers and an intensive sales drive is under way to back up planned future production. The new production version ofthe Buffalo is described in this article, together with several interesting research programmes. THE FINE ART OF DISPLAY FLYING - Public spectators crane their necks and gasp at the aerobatic gyrations of solo and formation displays at summer air shows, but don't always appreciate the finer points of the exhibition. Wg Cdr lan Dick, a former leader of the Red Arrows, provides an informed guide to the better appreciation of display flying. THE QUEST FOR ALTITUDE - During 1942, the appearance of high-flying Ju 86 reconnaissance bombers over the UK and the Mediterranean suggested that the war in the air might be moving into the stratosphere. To meet such a possibility, the Air Ministry had instigated development of a pressurized single-seat fighter a€" the Westland Welkin. This history of the Welkin is complemented by an account of its flight testing by Harald Penrose. DUXFORD'S LIVING MUSEUM - Duxford, near Cambridge, is one of the oldest RAF airfields still in existence and is also the home of an interesting collection of historic aircraft, many of them owned by the Imperial War Museum.
