ON THE COVER - Hornets in service are drably painted in low visibility schemes, but the prototypes displayed some attractive colour. This is the fourth F/A-18 prototype in September 1981 carrying four Mk 84 bombs. A nose probe is also fitted and the pilot's name (Bill Lowe) is painted alongside the cockpit. Inset: Quite distinctive in outline and colour scheme is Hercules W.2 XV208 of the Meteorological Research Flight. Malcolm English made a flight to find out about its work and his report starts on page 106.
