Contents Listing - Articles & Features in this issue
LOGBOOK - In an end of season 'ton cup' round-up. Bob Fisher reports from the 3/4-Ton Worlds in Torquay while Eyeline covers the '/ 2 and 'A-Ton Worlds held in Finland and Denmark. Ray Bulman reflects on the changing face of the Cowes-Torquay classic in its 25th year and from Cape Town Barry Pickthall tells of the winners and losers at the end of the first leg of the BOC Around The World Alone. We also report on the J-24 Worlds in Newport, the Six Heures de Paris and more.
AMERICA'S CUP - WHERE THE KOOKABURRA LAUGHS - With the fight for the America's Cup at last started, Bob Fisher writes back from Fremantle on the staging, and upstaging, of the challengers' first elimination trial and Cup-supremo Alan Bond's upset as the defence-contending Kookaburra camp wins rather more than the first round.
POWER - ENGINE EXOTICA - Changing gear, engines are no longer just noise-boxes to be hidden away - they're designer-desirable items. Kevin Desmond and Dag Pike reveal the polished gloss of the new high performance engines styled and package-wrapped in designer boats by the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche.
RACING - SARDINIA '86 - In its flourishing summer season, Sardinia's Costa Smeralda saw fine sailing and partying with its widely varied regattas - the Sardinia Cup for the keenest of international IOR racing and the Rolex Swan World Cup for the spectacle of innumerable Swans clashing in contest then tieing up in serried ranks ror evening celebrations of the Sardinian summer. Bob Fisher reports.
RACING - NIOULARGUE - It started as a challenge between two men and now it's a full festival of sail and power with more than 200 boats of every breed mixing it up in the Golfe de St Tropez. IOR racers, classical charter yachts, it matters not; they're all there vying for the best of attentions in this fashion parade of fun. Francois Richard and Rick Tomlinson were there to capture the mood.
RACING - DOWN IN 'FRISCO RAY - Sailed beneath San Francisco's dramatic skyline and Golden Gate bridge, the St Francis Yacht Club Perpetual Trophy Regatta looked set to pick up a new label in place of its familiar Big Boat Series name tag. But the fleet was keen and the racing good. Alastair Black was there to record the action in words and pictures.
BOAT SHOWS - GENOA '86 - The most stylish of European boat shows, Genoa in October reflects the latest and greatest in yacht design. From row upon row of spotlit superyachts to seemingly limitless numbers of power cruisers, speedsters and sailing boats, it's a show that can't fail to impress. Report by Mike Owen.
SHOWBOAT - AZIMUT 83 - Standing proud in Genoa's autumn sun, Azimut's AZ83 Florida blends the best of Italian flair with American featuring for a new line of stylised, fast power cruisers making the most of both the newest and oldest of boatbuilding skills. Report by Mike Owen.
PROPERTY PAGES - A selection of fine homes now available for sale in the world's most favoured spots and a paradise island for hire.
CHARTER & BROKERAGE - News of the charter and brokerage world - changing names, new boats, new locations and more.
CHARTER BY PEDIGREE: A wise investment? We look at Nautor's timeless classic, the Swan 65, and savour a charter aboard one of these, the newly available Desperado.
