FROM FIGHTERS TO BOMBERS Geoff Simpson investigates a select band of men who flew with RAF Fighter Command in the Battle of Britain but who would later become "bomber boys". There were also those who did it the other way round. They were flying in bombers in 1940, but then volunteered for Fighter Command and earned the 1939-45 Star with Battle of Britain Clasp. SHOT DOWN 1918 Lieutenant P.R. Hampton, a pilot with 62 Squadron flying Bristol F2b fighter/reconnaissance aircraft, provides a graphic description of being shot down over the Western Front on 3 May 1918. IDENTIFYING THE FALLEN On Monday, 19 July 2010, a special commemorative event will be held in the new Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) MilitaryCemetery.
