LIVING THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM: TORNADO DEBUTS ON GREAT CENTRAL - At the start of the same month that Britain marked the 40th anniversary of the end of steam on British Railways, the first new steam locomotive built for service on the national network in 48 years moved under its own power for the first time. By the end of August, Peppercorn A1 Pacific Tornado had already made several trips with a full-length passenger train on the Great Central Railway, as Robin Jones and Brian Sharpe report.
