NEWS FOCUS SPECIAL:Tangmere back in the sunny south!
The niggling problems which have dogged the long-awaited comeback of Bulleid Battle of Britain Pacific No. 34067 Tangmere to the main line continued with its first run back on Southern metals on April 5, as passenger Robin Jones reports. However, the locomotive is set to become a firm favourite as Wessex Trains seeks to establish its railtour operation in the south of England and beyond.

BLACK MAGIC AT MANGAPPS!

The North Norfolk Railway's J15 has been weaving that old GER black magic again. This time, it visited Mangapps Farm Museum in tandem with one of the Sheringham line's Waggon & Maschinenbau four-wheeled railbuses, for the opening of its latest extension - instilling the unique East Anglian branch line atmosphere of the late 1950s into a part it had never reached before, as Geoff Silcock reports in words and pictures.

WHAT'S LEFT OF ... the London Brighton & South Coast Railway.
The 'Brighton' is represented in preservation by 13 Victorian locomotives, of which no less than ten belong to the same class of diminutive tank engines. Brian Sharpe investigates what else still exists from the railway which gave us Stroudley's 'improved engine green'.
