For 17 years, members of the Bodmin & Wenford Railway have worked on restoring 'their' locomotive, Truro veteran GWR 2-6-2T No. 5552, to steam - and their efforts were more than rewarded with its stunning display during the line's September 6/7 gala. Its debut gives the railway three operational steam engines which are historically appropriate to the line, with a fourth, the biggest yet, on its way next spring, in the shape of West Country light Pacific No. 34007 Wadebridge, reports Robin Jones, with pictures by Brian Aston.
