Excelsior:
Not the South Coast coach operator but 'upwards'. The model bus hobby is growing in popularity and participants. It is a slow growth, but continuous. This benefits us all as manufacturers introduce new items and new manufacturers enter the field.

We have commented before about the fact that the majority of the hobby's suppliers are doing it out of enthusiasm rather than for financial return. These people are the unsung heroes of the hobby, working at evenings and weekends to provide the rest of us with the means to pursue our interests. At the other end of the scale we have the die-cast model manufacturers. In 'From concept to collection' we are fortunate to be able to bring you a peek behind the scenes at Corgi Classics. If you have ever wondered about what is involved in producing die-cast models then this article is for you. Big or small, all manufacturers must face up to criticism. Whilst we know of one model railway kit manufacturer who actually quit the business after an unfavourable magazine review, this is the exception rather than the norm. We believe that manufacturers should be responsive to constructive criticism. Poor quality cannot be excused on the basis that 'it's only a hobby'.

Our review pages will continue to be impartial. We are not swayed in our judgement by free samples or the purchase of advertising space.

We also welcome feedback from you, our readers. Let us know if you encounter exceptionally good, or bad, service or products. In this way we hope to help to raise the standards of the goods offered to bus modellers.

Many people have asked us for colour photographs so it is a great pleasure to produce our first colour cover edition. We have resisted the temptation to change the format of the front cover, after all if a model is good enough to be on the cover who are we to plaster text all over it?
