Welcome:
Oh gosh, where do I start? So much has changed since I wrote my last column-and I keep thinking about a throw away comment I made back in Christmas 2019 edition, when I joked: "Is it just me getting old, or does 2020 sound terribly sci-fi to you, too?". Who could ever have imagined that just a few months later some awful virus would drive the whole world into virtual lock down? But here we are, so I am hoping this issue finds you and your loved ones safe and well. Also, to all the key workers amongst you, who are working so bravely and tirelessly to try and get us through this crazy and unprecedented state of affairs, I'd like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. What I'd really like to do is give each and every one you a big hug, but I know that's the last thing you'd want any of us to do right now; so instead I'll simply do that one little thing you are asking of us and stay at home.
I reckon many of us, although we may not care to admit it, are suffering slightly from shock. Working on this issue has helped me enormously, though, as I haven't had much time to dwell on how surreal life has become or where this is all going, and it's nice to imagine that, in its own little way, MC will provide others (especially those living alone) with some welcome distraction, too. There is, however, no escaping the fact that this virus has touched almost every aspect of life as we know it, even in the small scale world. For example: most model manufacturers/retailers have temporarily had to cease production/shut up shop - so new releases are no doubt going to become increasingly thin on the ground for a while; for obvious reasons, we've had to drop our swapmeet/events diary; and from next month, with the auction houses also out of action for the foreseeable future, those pages will go too. Also, it's likely that those of you who usually buy your monthly copy from a newsagent won't be able to get out to do so, or perhaps won't find one open; maybe now, then, is the time to take out a subscription? I appreciate the dreadful impact this is having on the economy and that all of us are now cautiously watching every penny, but I suggest this not just because I, personally, need to keep the wolf from the door (trust me, she's already in and out of the house/garden every five minutes - our naughty Husky pup, Luna, that is!), but because we all need to stay mentally as well as physically healthy. I've always felt privileged to be part of this fantastically friendly and supportive community, so let's make sure we keep the channels of communication open worldwide. We have eight pages of your letters/emails included in this issue and I'll keep publishing them as long as you keep them coming.

I usually end with the words "Enjoy your read!" but (as like Dom - see his column on page 15 - I believe humour helps us through many a dark day) if you don't, then at least you'll have something to use if you run out of toilet paper! Oh, and for all our US readers, I apologise in advance for Dorn's "now is the time to keep your pecker up" advice. It means something else entirely here!
