COVER PICTURE - Brentwood bank must be the most photographed spot on the Great Eastern. Pre-grouping collectors know well the familiar picture, taken from the other side of this bridge, of a " Claud," resplendent in blue and shining metal, climbing steadily towards East Anglia in the days when only two tracks ran through the cutting. Our more recent picture, taken from a new angle, shows a Gresley 2-6-0 on a semi-fast train. Nowadays, the retaining walls combine with the sloping banks above to make room for the two extra tracks; a pleasant arrangement worth some thought by model railway civil engineers.
