Front cover: General view of Kings Cross Station with Deltic Class 55 No 9004 winding its way through the tortuous layout with the Flying Scotsman for Edinburgh on May 1 1972; the layout here is to be simplified as part of the GN suburban electrification scheme. Moreover, the capacity of Kings Cross could well have an affect on further development of East Coast main line services. An article elsewhere in this issue surveys the improvements to the East Coast route timetable from May, following the lifting of a number of speed restrictions to allow continuous high-speed running.
