Miniature gas turbines, rockets, electric waterplanes, ducted fans - we've got 'em all in this issue, underlining just how incredibly advanced this hobby of aeromodelling is nowadays! It's come a long way since the days of wartime shortages when essentials like balsa were unobtainable, i.e. powered models were prohibited (in case they confused the new-fangled radar!) and practical radio control was the stuff that only dreams were made of. There's been such an enormous evolution in what is really a relatively short space of ^ time that, as with most other fields of current technical development (computers, cameras, communications, etc. - the list is endless), you can't help believing that there must be even bigger model flying developments just around the corner!

Practical solar power, kerosene-burning mini-jets, programmable on-board autopilots, instant re-charge batteries, auto-start engines? Some of these are realities already and it is exciting indeed to speculate on just what might happen next.

Mind you, if you're honest enough to admit that our modern computer radios are already a darned sight cleverer than most model fliers (this one included), perhaps it's not such a good idea after all! Be seeing you.
