Editorial: An aspect of the flying of radio controlled models has arisen, which could jeopardise the use of well over 50 per cent of our flying fields. This is danger to full size aircraft. Recently, at Hounslow Heath, a model was plotted flying above and in the flight path of an airliner taking off. There is no need to elaborate on the horror of a mid-air collision between a model and a full size aircraft, whether it be airliner, light plane or glider. The air navigation order, as it applies to models, was discussed at a recent meeting between Board of Trade officials and officers of the S.M.A.E., and, be under no misapprehension, if similar reports recur, then no model flying will be permitted where danger exists. This rule will apply to the flying of any type of model near air routes, on aerodromes, and so on.
