WE rather expected a few caustic comments from readers about last month's Readers' Letter, but all is silence. However, we must comment on the clear all these photographers away from the scene statement. Agreed, there are too many and they do impede proceedings, which does raise the question, is it necessary for them to be at the take-off point at all It is our duty to prepare as good a report as possible for our readers, and the easiest way to ensure one obtains photographs of everyone is to remain at the take-off point. In Bremen, this was not allowed, but the Press did have access to the ready line, which amounted to the same thing unless, that is, one wanted "action" shots, when a telephoto lens became essential. Let us take off our editorial hat for the moment and put on our competitors' one. We have no objection to being photographed while getting our models ready and starting, but we do object to our model being placed in jeopardy by photographers who will stand in front of the take-off line, in the hope of getting an "action" photo. The results from this hazardous procedure are seldom, or never, worth the effort. From the results we have seen only about 1% are potentially worth while although, eventually, far more than this find their way into print. We would, therefore, suggest that persons who can show reasonable cause should have access to competitors' enclosures etc. However, access to take-off points should be restricted solely to bona fide representatives of genuine model magazines, and none of these should be allowed in front of the model at take-off. Finally, reverting to Bremen, although the Press information could have been more helpful, the provision of completely detailed results and model information, made our report this month, a lot easier to compile than has been the case at many meetings.
