Railway of the Month: DalbyWood - A new two-level main line layout in 00, with a mix of Warley MRC members' stock on show. The layout, which will be on show at the NEC over the weekend of 21 &22 November, is described by Derek Lane. Scale Drawings: LMS diesel hydraulic No. 1831 - This early and unsuccessful diesel prototype was introduced in 1934. Nick Easton draws, describes and scratchbuilds a 7mm scale model: also shown is a new 4mm scale kitbuilt version. Pen-y-ffordd - A number of modellers' talents have been combined to create this 7mm scale narrow gauge layout, based closely on Festiniog practice. Geoff Lord tells the story of its conception and construction. Loch Ewe excursion - 1 - Roger Christian and Stan Williams begin a short series of tours around this extension to the Gairloch and Wester Ross system in 009. The facilities at the harbour terminus of the new section are tackled first Engineering wagons in N - A step-by-step construction guide to two models available to members of the N Gauge Society, built by Andrew Beard; a JJA Autoballaster bogie wagon, and a PNA four-wheel spoil carrier. Highbury Colliery - 2 - Jerry Clifford concludes his article on this small 2mm finescale layout, based on the north Somerset coalfield in the 1920s, part one of which was published in last month's issue. Return to Colby and Kendale - Ken Payne has been a long-standing contributor and modeller, and his 'last great project', in 0 gauge and in a purpose-built room, is illustrated here by the editor. Ken has provided an update to our previous visits to this LMS period layout. Loch Oran - Inspired by the West Highland line, and set around Crianlarich, Loch Oran shows what might have been if one of the railway routes in the area had not been closed. Its builder, David Harrison, presents his article on this scenic N gauge masterpiece. Rowthorne - A London Midland Region-based terminus in 00, set in the 1950s/1960s, and completed with the aid of many readily-available models, as Derek Gelsthorpe explains. Class 108 DMU with sound - Roger Miller takes the new Graham Farish N gauge model and adds digital control with sound; he shows you how, with the aid of some additional computer hardware and programming, to convert sound files to give the correct audio experience. Plan of the Month: Stock exchange - The Editor argues the case for a versatile shunting layout, which can be adapted to allow a wider range of the many items of freight stock on the market today to be run than might be possible with a model based around a set number of traffic flows. The theme is enhanced by the supposition of a large, but off-scene, industry, the type of which can also be varied in order to be an appropriate match to the wagons which are to appear on the layout. Even time spans can be different too. Railway Modelling Explored - 1: Working with cardboard - 4 - Working with the newly-released Metcalfe semi-detached houses kit in 4mm scale, by John Brewer. Railway Modelling Explored - 2: A count house - AleC Kendall moved on from adapting Dapol structure kits in 4mm scale to do some basic scratchbuilding. Readers' Letters Latest Reviews - Among the items reviewed this month are the brand new Hornby 'Clan' Pacific and Hawker Siddeley Kestrel from Heljan, both in 00; newly-commissioned loco and private owner wagons; more BR Mk.1 Pullman cars in N from Graham Parish; a from NOCH, with intricate parts and very fine detail Book & DVD Reviews News - Including updates on projects from Bachmann, Hornby and Dapol, a new venue for the 2010 Manchester show, the long-awaited country station kit in 4mm from Metcaife, a report from this year's Scaleforum, more new releases for the 0 gauge modeller, HMRS wagon bodies in 0, Oart castings whitemetal figures and animals in 4mm, DC Kits developments, and much more.
