News:
Headline News - DfT Rail to re-franchise ECML; Virgin wins back full control of West Coast franchise; Eddington Report comes down against North-South high-speed line; Class 153s go into store; Mid-Hants buys Canadian Pacific; North Woolwich line closes; ORR probes leasing companies; New platforms at Marylebone.
FRONT COVER: Although many of those who were there will find it hard to believe, it's a quarter of a century since the demise of the English Electric 'Deities' on British Rail. The precursor of the 22 production locos was the prototype Deltic, whose blue livery made a massive impact on the steam-age railway of the mid and late-1950s. By a remarkable coincidence, the works number of Deltic is 2007, which makes it the ideal subject for this month's cover. The iconic machine is seen at night during a rare outdoor move at Shildon's 'Locomotion' museum on November 2, 2006.
Inset; Ex-LNER K4 2-6-0 No. 61994 The Great Marquess is back after overhaul, but is scheduled to move with A4 No. 60009 to a permanent home in Scotland. See Headline News.
