FRONT COVER: Caledonian Railway No. !23 at Carstairs in April 1965. This 4-2-2 locomotive was built by Neilson & Company in 1886, withdrawn as L.M.S. 14010 in 1935 and restored at St. Rollox shortly after. It was returned to traffic for special workings 1958-1965, and now is on display at Glasgow Transport Museum. Transparency by Derek Cross
