FRONT COVER: A scene at the famous King's Cross 'Top Shed' on 16th September 1961. showing, by rare chance, two pioneers of their respective classes aide by side. The first of the V2 2-6-2s No.60800 Green Arrow stands ready for duty alongside the first of the A4 Pacifies No.60014 Silver Link. The V2 exhibits the high standard of finish for which 'Top Shed' was renowned, while the A4 has its 'cod's mouth' open to give access to the smokehox. Green Arrow is off course, preserved in the NRM in its now mure familiar LNER lively as No.4771.
