WELCOME to another edition of MRP. Again this month we are providing you with a four-page supplement on all the IC125and multiple-unit stock, however those of you who prefer the picture content can be assured that a photo feature will re-appear in that slot next month.
This magazine aims to provide you with the latest news in high quality photographs and we hope you like this month's mixture including the Exeter resignalling and characteristic signalboxes. However not all the news can come photographically so we are devoting a little room to give you Rolling Stock News and ALL the stock changes to keep your Ian Allan pocket books bang up to date. Recently a reader wrote at length complaining that the term 'Duff' used in reference to Class 47s was derogatory. As your new editor I won't comment at this stage; what do you, our valued readers, feel — nicknames or not? Once again industrial action brought our railways to a shut down, this time on 17 April when no trains ran in Scotland as the National Union of Railwaymen chose to protest at job losses at Glasgow (Springburn) BREL Works. The inconvenience to the travelling public and BR's all important freight customers can only further harm the union's aims. The reasons for the run down, and yes, possibly even closure, are lost traffic and the need to be competitive; there is spare capacity and the other Works are better suited to today's requirements.
Keep your news pictures, newspaper cuttings, and all the real railway news rolling in; this magazine is YOUR magazine each and every month. If you want some other interesting magazines in the meantime don't forget Modern Railways and Railway Worldto be fully informed on all railway matters!
