The theft of an engine from a trade stand at Sandown Park back in May (see 'Look out for Laser' in this month's 'Airtime') serves as yet another reminder of the fact that you can't trust anybody these days - not even aeromodellers. And this is particularly sad. Model flying at its most enjoyable has always been about likeminded comradeship and mutual encouragement - that's why clubs are so numerous and why events like Old Warden attract hundreds of family groups out for a day's communal enjoyment. Which makes the Laser theft (and the growing incidence of similar heists like the free flight models found downwind with their motors wrenched off and missing at most recent Vintage Weekends) so hard to swallow. It strikes at the very fabric of the hobby. Modellers never used to do this to each other...Maybe our dishonest pal will attempt to run his ill-gotten gain. And, if there's any justice to be had, maybe it'll take his thumb off, bringing a whole new meaning to the term 'lightfingered'!
