XCLUSIVELY RAILWAY MODELLING THERE has been a suggestion going around that railway modelling is on the decline, but we wish to assure our readers that from our experience there is no recession; on the contrary, we believe the interest in railway modelling is greater today than ever before. Because of this we have decided that, as from our October number, the most popular model railway monthly, the railway modeller, will contain additional pages enabling us to provide even more " shows you how" articles in each issue. The railway modeller will bring you more lavishly illustrated railways of the month, plans and photographs of model layouts, articles on locomotives, rolling stock and railway building construction, scale drawings of every description, plus the latest news of prototype developments a€ in short, we shall continue to feature all aspects of railway modelling only, and using tried and tested methods. The railway modeller will not be tempted to cover kindred modelling interests, in particular that of model roadways. We are, however, alive to the fact that model roads are an up-and-coming hobby, and in many respects closely allied to model railways, but because of the individual interest Peco Publications are to cover the subject properly by publishing a separate magazine devoted exclusively to model roads and racing, edited by separate specialized staff who are experts in their particular field. In this way those interested in both subjects will be able to obtain the best magazine for both hobbies but those who are only interested in one need not purchase irrelevant material. Next month, in addition to the extra pages, another of our booklets, this time dealing with the important subject of signalling practice, will be given free. We shall be featuring a truly outstanding railway of the month which has a remarkable stud of unusual locomotives. We shall also have an article on the operation of the Borrow Branch, of special interest because this line is one of the entrants in the layout competition at the Model Rail and Road Hobby Show (see page 222). Unfortunately all these extras cannot be provided without some increase in price, which is made necessary also to cover the rises in costs that have occurred throughout the publishing world. Once you have seen the October issue you will readily appreciate that with the increased number of pages the value page for page-is beyond question. As from this number the retail price of the railway modeller will be 2/6. Coming again to our new companion magazine, which we briefly mentioned last month, full details of Model Roads and Racing are now given in our advertising pages in this issue. It is a magazine of the same format and style as the railway modeller and is again devoted exclusively to the hobby of model car racing and miniature roadway construction. We do feel that many readers of the railway modeller will find this new magazine of considerable importance, regardless of whether they are interested in model roads, since the scenic side and building construction will be covered in great detail, more so than has been possible hitherto in the railway modeller. It will in addition show you how roadway systems can be attractively blended with the model railway. Yes, October will be an exciting month for us all.
